We all have God given talents that we can use in our lives and the life of the Church. Would you be able to use your talent to help St.Peter’s and it’s mission in the heart of Huddersfield? We are always in need of volunteers to help in supporting the life and worship of our community. If you think you would be interested in helping with any of the following roles or rotas, why not get in touch?
Reading the lessons is an important part of our worship on Sundays. Readings are allocated at least a couple of weeks in advance of when they need to be read, so you’ll have plenty of time to practice and become familiar with the text. The Church is fitted with microphones and an induction loop system, so even those who are smaller of voice can join in!
Prayers of Intercession
Offering our cares and concerns to God in prayer is one of the most important things we can do in our Christian lives. Could you do that during the service on a Sunday and help to take the congregation with you in Prayers of Intercession? If you think that might be you, then we can provide some simple training and guidance that could help you to bring those cares and concerns to God during worship. We work to a simple rota, with Intercessors offering prayer in Church once every couple of months.
Do you think that you can make sure that each member of our congregation is handed a service sheet and hymn book and receives a brief and warm welcome on their arrival at Church? Can you help take the offertory during the service and then put books and service sheets tidy at the end of worship? Then you could certainly be a sidesperson. Duties are organised via a simple rota.
St.Peter’s has a unique yet simple system of pastoral care for every member of our congregation. Meeting four times a year, the pastoral care team take the time to consider each member of our Church family and ask “How are you?” In this way – whether it is realised or not! – each and every one of St.Peter’s congregation is afforded care and consideration. Could the next member of the Pastoral Care Team be you?
Servers and Chalice Bearers
Service to others is at the heart of our Christian life. Our serving team and chalice bearers have the immense privilege of preparing the alter and sacraments for the service each Sunday, and presenting the chalice to Communicants during the Eucharist. They are simple yet rewarding roles and full training will be given to those interested in joining the team. The team is organised using a flexible rota.
At St.Peter’s we think it’s very important that the Church is open as much as is possible to offer Huddersfield a place for prayer and quiet contemplation. That means we are in need of volunteers to join our Saturday Hosting rota, helping to keep the Church open between 10am and 2pm each Saturday. Could you give 2 hours of your time once a month to be present in Church and have the odd conversation with those visiting the building? If so, give us a call.
Singing hymns is thirsty work and the members of our Tea and Coffee Rota do sterling work in ensuring that all are refreshed at the end of our worship on Sundays. Could you help with this simple but important act of hospitality that helps bring our congregation together in conversation? Get in touch!
Coffee Morning Plus
Once a month on a Saturday we do a little bit more at St.Peter’s and serve teas and coffees with an added “plus.” That plus can be anything from a plant sale to introductions to bell ringing. Whatever the activity, the morning’s are fun and provide a welcome and hospitality to all who care to come along. But we do need people to help serve those teas and coffees!
It has been said that in this modern day and age that even those single men amongst the congregation must know how to work a washing machine. Could you take a few minutes to add some of the Church’s linen to your load and then drop them back at Church clean and ready to be used? If so, it would be appreciated more than you know! Why not get in touch?
You don’t need to have won awards at the Chelsea Flower Show to help ensure that the Church is decorated with beautiful blooms during the year. Do you have an interest in flowers and flower arranging? Would you like to keep your hand in and get some practice on a Friday every so often? Get in touch and we’ll ensure that training – and a warm welcome! – is given.
If you can’t manage any of the above, then perhaps you could do something as simple and important as offering prayers for those in need in our community during your times of prayer at home? We tend to think that there is no such thing as offering too many prayers on behalf of the whole community of Huddersfield. In this way, you may be of more service than you ever realise.
