This Sunday, 4th December Huddersfield Parish Church welcomes the Right Reverend Nick Baines – the Anglican Bishop of Leeds – will be leading the main worship at St. Peter’s church, confirming a number of candidates from the parish.
Although Huddersfield is served by an area bishop in Reverend Dr. Jonathan Gibbs, Bishop Baines is the ‘Diocesan’ or lead bishop for the wider West Yorkshire Area.
The Rev’d Canon Simon Moor said: “This is the first occasion since the creation of the new and larger diocese that the Lord Bishop of Leeds has presided and preach at Huddersfield Parish Church.”
Based in Leeds, Bishop Nick’s diocese covers the whole of West Yorkshire and some bits of South and North Yorkshire and includes the majority of the old Wakefield, Bradford and Ripon Diocese.
Canon Moor added: “Bishop Nick will speak to a friendly and attentive congregation, who are eager to hear the leading figure in our diocese. They will be looking for encouragement and some words of wisdom.”
Bishop Nick speaks regularly on the Chris Evans’ breakfast show on Radio 2.
The service begins at 10.00am and there will be refreshments afterward.
In the afternoon the bell will be rung in thanksgiving for the day.
