At the start week that Kirklees ‘Festival of Light’ begins, St. Peter’s Parish Church is experiencing a ‘Service of Light’.
Sunday 2nd December marks the beginning of the season of Advent – the season of daily opening of the ‘Advent Calendar’ or daily lighting of an ‘Advent Candle’. The service of light begins at 6.30pm in darkness and progresses into flickering candle light. All this takes place within readings and choral music.
The Reverend Canon Simon Moor, Vicar of St Peter’s said, “This atmospheric service gives space to think a little and in the Christian tradition, recognise preparation for Christmas.”
St Peter’s choir is mainly made up of talented university students under the direction of Elly Bosworth and will sing pieces that look forward to the brightness of Christmas.
Canon Moor also looked forward to experiencing the Kirklees Festival of light:
“We are looking forward to St Peter’s gardens a being illuminated during the festival and having Byram Street as one of the focuses of the festival.”
On Saturday 8th December, St Peter’s church will be holding a Lantern Workshop between 2pm-5pm – Huddersfield Parish Church will be open and welcoming people and helping people to make their own lanterns for the festival.
